BlackBerry GPS software

Postby k on Wed Aug 06, 2008 11:45 am

I really the GPS apps from Skylab (MobileTracker and Spot) for my BlackBerry.

While Spot is quite hard to use (bad user interface) it comes with a lot of features like waypoint management, field navigation, etc.; MobileTracker is very very easy to use and it just works. I love those easy apps. :)

What do you guys use?

TellMe is another good GPS software...it still has a buggy voice activation feature but when it works its so cool. There is also MyPoint that works with google maps. While both still do need some improvement, it can be relied upon a lot of times. Pretty cool free apps! :)

Im not familiar with Tellme but having a plan with Sprint and getting one of their Navigation plans will give your blackberry a lot of use. They offer applications for tracking and navigation (if you have a business with lots of logistics in it, this will be nice). Sprint website is flashy and sometimes buggy but the service is tested.

try this link for a primer http://www.nextel.com/en/services/gps/gps.shtml?id12=UHP_ServicesTab_Link_GPS

GPSed is a great piece of software for tracking a bike tour or your walk on weekend. You can also add your photos to the tracks. I like this tool.

I tried TrekBuddy. This is not too bad, although user menu in the top right corner freaks me out, same applies to usage of that menu. But the software is great. There is also an application for downloading map tiles, it is GOOGLEAK, developed by the bloke OLEGYCH. This software downloads maps from different sources, such as Google Maps, Yahoo, and couple of other sources. However you need SD card to keep 'em on your BB.

It seems to be a plain MIDP app as they always have the menu at wrong corner :)

What those guys are doing is technically illegal as the google API terms clearly state that it is not allowed to combine them with a GPS position. Spot had a Google layer 2.5 years ago already but they removed it due to google's terms of use issues ... :|
